This morning the kids and I ventured to the zoo with some friends of ours. I met Kelly through the Project Life Australia Facebook group and we have become real-life friends! Tilly and her youngest, W are a similar age and get along well, so it works when we all get together! It was fun to break our Wednesday routine (sorry playgroup!) with a trip out. Faves from today...

Day 2 and I am loving this process. It is 10:16pm and my youngest has only JUST gone to sleep so today will be only pics. These are from my real camera. A few from my phone are still there. :)
If I can, I will be posting some of my favourite photos from the day here each night.
Something that I have liked about my approach so far this year is to not try to take in every little portion of the day, but rather to capture things that I can tell stories about that are common to us now. Monday was... a quiet morning at home cleaning and the kids helping and playing so well together, taking Tilly to kinder in the downpour, a planned GP visit for me, more play after kinder before an 'in-front-of-the-TV-kid-dinner', bath, late Toby home, sleepy drive for Sam, omelette dinner for Toby and pimped-porridge' for me. Lots of stolen moments in front of the computer screen too as me Beck Holder Photography website update post went up. Here are some of today's favourites... Hello... do you remember me? Well done if you've found me here. It's been pretty quiet over here!
I have been filling my days with the kids and our home. Tilly is in kinder this year and Sam is 2. My photography business has been growing and I have also returned to work as a primary teacher one day a week, teaching Art! All of this has left little room for my other passion of memory keeping, particularly Project Life. The passion IS there though and I continue to chip off bits and pieces as I can. My struggle is getting to the editing of my personal photos on the computer and then getting the photos printed in store. It was wonderful to see Becky Higgins again a few weeks back and to be reminded that there are seasons in life and that it will be there when I can pick it up properly again. With this in mind, and with some thoughts about the Project Life App, I have decided to attempt to document a week in our life starting tomorrow. My plan has grown and changed somewhat, but the guts of it is this...
Those are my rough plans thus far. You may see me again this week, or you may not. ;) If you are taking part in WITL, I wish you all the best and a happy time collecting memories of your life right now. x It's that time of the year again! For those who have been here for a while you will know that I am a very keen participant in Ali Edwards' December Daily project. Last year I was invited to be on the design team for The Stamp Spot, using their Documenting December kit and I am honoured to be included in this group again in 2015. Today, Michelle shared her kit online and it is now ready for sale here! Below are some photos from Michelle's blog post of the kit contents. A beautiful range of cardstock, specialty papers, acetate, wood veneer, flair, washi, die cuts, doilies and MUCH more! I will be receiving mine in the next week or so and I can't wait to share what I and the other team members come up with.
Wednesdays are for chrio appointments, for playgroup and for relaxed 'no plans' afternoons.
This week we had Sam's 18month check up at the nurse. He's been growing! We had a special treat- food court lunch then came home to make the most of some quiet time as Sam slept for some 'girl time'. We made playdough and played a game that was mine when I was a little girl (on Tilly's request). After little mate was up and cheery, we went for a walk to do the school run and we had a play with the neighbours in the late afternoon. Cleaning up throughout the day and lots of funny anecdotes which will be included in my album. Tuesday at our house means art class then usually having a play with a friend. We have an arrangement where we swap houses each week and then meet up later in the afternoon when the younger ones wake for a cuppa and a grown up chat. It's such a great arrangement because it means that both mums get some time out- our girls play so well together that it usually gives us a break!
Sam woke too early again this morning. I asked Toby to come and take him and Tilly came in to my bed and had a further 30mins sleep in with me. I'm feeling tired! This week we had a visit to the art studio rather than a lesson which we still enjoyed. It was our turn to have our friend over today. 'Frozen' was a game that featured prominently. Even though my Tilly has only seen the movie once in entirety, she is 'into it' and loves the songs. Plenty of dress ups and some painting together too. My friend from high school days visited when Sam slept so we got to catch up properly too with the girls entertaining themselves. I, like many others have been spending this week documenting my every day with the project, Week in the Life by Ali Edwards. If you're new to this concept check out Ali's video here for more information.
I will put together my album at a later stage, but for now I have been snapping lots of photos and taking notes on paper (using random scraps and the templates that Ali has available for free) or on the iphone (notes, sms's to myself). I am LOVING using my SLR so much this week and already know that I have captured some new favourite photos. The favourites are not always the 'best' photos- they may be out of focus or grainy, but they are moments captured that evoke emotion and stir memories and stories for me. I can't wait to get the stories out! Below are some of my favourite snaps from Monday. The process of selecting photos to share here is helping me to choose the ones that will feature in my album. I enjoy looking at how others capture the everyday moments and I hope that I might be able to inspire someone else too! Please leave a comment if you get a new idea. :) I am 'behind'... but I'm ok with that... mostly! :) I am dying for some alone time to pump through more weeks but here is a little snapshot of where I am at the moment. I quite like it when I can pop LOTS of photos into pockets at the same time and I'm looking forward to doing that.
You will be able to see an example of the planner that I use to help me plan what photos I need to print and what I already have in pockets. Bring on more time for project lifeing and full albums! How are you traveling this year? Firstly, please excuse these photos. My lenses have literally all broken recently and won't communicate with my beautiful new camera. :( Repairs take time so there are some sub-standard photos here... a little embarrassing but I really wanted to get the end of my Demember Daily posted. This post is very photo heavy. So it's all finished, and it's fat and full of beautiful photos of stories of December. Of Christmas. Of traditions new and old. Of everyday life. It sits on the shelf next to my other December albums and I smile each time I see them. The gallery below includes photos of pages from December 21-26. We had a family celebration on Boxing Day which is why that was included, otherwise I would have stopped on Christmas Day. Here is a summary of our final December days... December 21- A drive to Bendigo to visit my God-daughter and her mum and to have a 'Christmas' with them. I have also included a reflection on the first Christmas. Ali's Imperfect and Awesome stamp had me thinking about that from the very beginning of December so I was glad to have a place to record my thoughts. December 22- A drive around the place to see some Christmas lights... there was a very excited 2 year old in the car for this journey and a sleeping 10 month old! December 23- Just a single page for today about the Jacaranda trees that are EVERYWHERE this season! We sing the Jacaranda (hallelujah) chorus when we drive together now! December 24- LOTS of pages for today, plus an insert of Tilly and Sam's letters from Santa. These pages really cover blow by blow what happened on the day. There is some journaling hidden in the velum pocket with the gold doily which covers the story of the day and a little reflection on how I was feeling. 2014 was the first Christmas that I was not pregnant in 4 years. There was Tilly, a baby that we lost and then Sam last year. I felt the loss of that missing baby more this year, perhaps because I didn't have the distraction of a new baby on the way and also because we discovered we were pregnant on Christmas Eve 2013. It felt right to acknowledge that it was an emotional day for me, but also a joyful one. I spent some time decorating gingerbread men with Tilly, we visited our elderly neighbour and delivered homemade treats for her. We had a play in the river with friends and we read Christmas stories together under the tree (with the kids in their new pyjamas) before setting up Santa's plate. December 25- Of course this was a big day! There are again, lots of photos of this day and I included a 3x8 piece of cardstock to record the story of the day. I love the transparency and the other filler cards from Dec 24 and 25 from The Stamp Spot kit. December 26- Lucky last, the Holder Christmas and celebration of my mother in law's birthday. I completed this day with 3 sides of the 2x2 page protectors. Lots of little photos- of portraits, casual moments, little details and journaling. I especially love that my sister in law took some photos of Toby and I together after dinner. They make me laugh! So that's it! Another year done to add to the collection.
A big thankyou to Michelle from The Stamp Spot for including me in her Documenting December Team for 2014. I had a wonderful time using the kit and getting to know the other ladies on the team. I honestly feel a bit sad to be saying 'goodbye' to this project and that team of ladies. There's always next year to create a new keepsake. Have you finished your December album? If you're still going, don't give up! |
